"If the flu were to strike before vaccines were available for everyone, who would get them?"

First, vaccine production requires that the organism it's to protect against exists, so a pandemic flu would strike before a vaccine was available. It takes six months from the time the pandemic starts to make vaccine, and even then, there's not enough for everybody. Here are some of the priority groups for vaccination, in order:

Healthcare workers and people who make the vaccine (10 million doses)

People older than 65 with one or more conditions that make them susceptable to influenza as well as those of any age who's immune systems are compromised (25 million doses)

Other priority groups

Politicians, funeral directors and telecommunications workers.

Children.

"How can I protect myself from catching bird flu from my cat?"
